It can be more difficult for women to get fit than men for a number of reasons beyond their control. There are a few workout routines for women that can help them jump over these hurdles and get started on getting fit. Cardio Workouts

Cardio is some of the easiest and most enjoyable exercise you can do. The most basic of cardio workouts entail activities that you would do on a regular basis. This includes walking or running, swimming, climbing stairs, sports, and bicycle riding.  These are all simple cardio activities you can do right at home, in your yard, or around your neighborhood.
Cardio workouts are the basis for getting fit, and they are a part of just about any type of long term exercise regime. This type of exercise has multiple benefits that can help anyone:
- Strengthens the heart, thereby helping fight high cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as diabetes.
- Steady calorie burning.
- Increases your lung capacity.

Workouts at the Gym

Though you can choose to do simple cardio exercises at home or elsewhere, you may want to turn to the gym if you are looking to make the most of your exercise time.
There is only one initial downside to taking to your local gym, which is the membership fee. If you make use of your membership and keep up with your chosen regime, this investment is well-worth it. Workouts at the gym can get you more motivated to get in shape, as there are going to be people with the same goal as yourself: to get fit.
Another benefit to going to a gym to exercise is that there is a much larger variety of equipment than you would be able to get at home. The vast collection of equipment to be found at a gym would cost thousands of dollars to get for home use, not to mention the amount of space it would take up. Many gyms also have classes you can take to reach your fitness goals.

Workouts at Home

If heading to the gym isn’t an option for you, it is possible to still get a full workout right at home. Workouts at home can be done whenever you have some spare time, and there is no pressure from outside sources. On the flip side, you will have to motivate yourself to get in shape. There’s no membership keeping you going, only your own willpower.
Though you can invest in some workout equipment, you can also do simple exercises right at home to get the very same results. Taking walks regularly is the most simple type of exercise you can work into your week, and it is one of the best ways to increase your heart rate and improve your stamina. Over time you can work your walks into jogs, and further down the line into runs.
There are other great exercises you can actually do in the comfort of your own home. Some of these include squats, crunches, sit ups, jumping jacks, and leg lifts, and light weight lifting.

Weekly Workouts for Women

Getting a weekly workout routine down can help you get into the habit of exercising at certain periods, and it can help you work up your stamina and limits. Start small and increase the duration and limits of your exercises as time goes on.
The most effective weekly workouts for women just starting to get into exercising will be segmented by days, with small amounts of exercise per day. Sometimes the amount you have to do will be based on a time amount (usually starting at 30 minutes), while at other times you should simply do a set amount of specified exercises per day. For example, 20 squat reps with 20 sit ups and the like to get started.

Toning Exercises

The term “toning exercises” covers those that are meant to lean your body out while giving you some muscle definition. Cardio exercises are a great way to start getting toned, especially when paired with a healthy diet. You cannot cut too many calories when aiming for a toned body, otherwise your body will not be able to create muscle tone.
You can focus your efforts on certain muscle groups if you feel that specific areas of your body need more work than others. Many of the upper body toning exercises you can do pertain to weight lifting; light weights are appropriate when you are just starting out. Lower body toning exercises include squats, hip lifts, and even walking.

Yoga

Yoga is a popular exercise option for women looking to increase their physical strength, flexibility, and sense of balance. The benefits to yoga are obvious, but actually starting to do it can leave some women confused. Where do you start? Do you have to take a class? You do not have to take a yoga class to get started. There are plenty of resources in the form of articles and videos to be found on the internet, and there are books on the subject as well. With that said, you do have to purchase a yoga mat in order to get started.
Taking a yoga class is recommended as you can learn the proper poses without fail and can get feedback from an instructor. Though these classes are not free, they do provide some of the best workout routines for women out there.
